Closed for the 2017 Holiday Season

Dear Friends of Earth & Sky Farm,

We hope the season finds you well! It is with bitter sweetness that we announce we will be closed 2017 holiday season. We have genuinely cherished celebrating eight magical tree cutting seasons with you. It has been a gift to grow community, nurture traditions and raise our families together. Time flies when you are having fun!

Our search for a farm to call home led us to the end of the trail in Oregon City. As greenhorn farmers and new parents back in 2009, we dug in deep… learning through trial and error (with always so much more still to learn!). We have worked to encourage biodiversity in new farm plantings, moving away from single crop monoculture. Where Christmas trees once grew, gardens and grapes, chickens and apple orchards, hops and native plantings now take residence-- and still we love the trees. We enjoy growing the Northwest iconic evergreen trees, hosting the holiday hunt and welcoming family and friends for an annual visit. We were inspired by how this tradition took root and have sought to strike balance with our own family/work lives and impacts on the farm by gradually cutting back our annual hours over the years as our inventory lessened. Our community never faltered but rather circled closer, for which we are authentically grateful.

We hoped to compliment the tradition of harvesting trees each winter by planting new fledgling trees each spring. We began this practice in the early days but the past few years have been challenging for many Oregon Christmas Tree farmers, ourselves included, with nursery stock demand outpacing supply. For our small farm, the lack of available new tree plantings coupled with a few seasons of challenging crop damage has led us to the decision to close for the season. Mother Nature needs her time.

We recognize this seasonal closure may be cause for disappointment and we do sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. We know how much traditions mean. We heartily encourage you to seek out other family farms in the area for your holiday tree this year and we would love to stay connected.

Our 2019 nursery stock has already been secured! We will be doing the work that is needed to revitalize our tree stand, planting young trees and nurturing those we have already in the ground. We are committed to maintaining our farm without the use of pesticides and are ever working to improve overall soil health to increase the health of all our crops.

We hope to be able to share the tree cutting tradition with you again soon (as well as other crops and community happenings!). If you’d like to stay connected be sure to sign up for our email list and we'll update you!

We thank you for your understanding, all your terrific support and wish you the happiest holiday season from our family at Earth & Sky Farm!

Cheers,
Jana, Tim, Prana & Adrik

Family & Friends Holiday Tree Weekend - Dec 3rd & 4th, 2016

2016 marks our seventh year on the farm and our eighth season as tree farmers (we never could have imagined!). We love the tradition we have grown with you, our vibrant community. We enjoy sharing in memories together and appreciate your kind, continued support. We have gradually increased the biodiversity of these 4+ acres— replanting fir trees while making way for a garden, green house, chickens, walking path and kids play area. We planted apple and pear trees, flowers and hops and have many more dreams to seed and take root here.

With a smaller stand of evergreens and more bustling lives than ever before we are happy to embrace the holidays at a slightly slower pace, opening this year for:

Family & Friends Holiday Tree Weekend
10am-4pm Sat, Dec 3rd & Sun, Dec 4th
any tree ~ suggested donation $25

While we may hang a closed sign on the gate for the public we are open to our family and friends the first weekend of December. We'll light the fire, heat the cocoa and sharpen the hand saws, you bring your jacket, hat, boots and sense of pioneer spirit and we'll greet another yule year lingering by the flames, listening to music, taking extra time to greet babies and dogs, welcoming familiar embraces and slowing a bit to savor the season.

Thank you for growing with us! We hope to see you on the farm.
Cheers,
Jana & Tim

Homegrown Grand & Noble Fir Trees

Choose & Cut, Any Size $25

During the 2014 Holiday Season Earth & Sky Farm will open two consecutive weekends in December for Choose & Cut Holiday Tree Sales. We will host local artisan vendors the second weekend. Buying local is a great way to support a vibrant community and purchase thoughtfully.

Our family farmed trees are grown without the use of pesticides or chemicals and are $25 for any size. Two sizes of wreaths, handcrafted from the trimmed boughs of our trees will be available. The evergreen forest is a loved part of our small farm landscape. Most of our Fir Trees are gently sheered to a tapered shape each year, with a bit of their wild nature still intact. We find many folks enjoy the experience of hunting for their own unique holiday tree, discovering where it grows and cutting it down themselves. We are happy to help grow this sustainable tradition and annually replant a few hundred new trees each Spring. Friends of of the farm are welcome to join us for Spring Tree Planting and encouraged to stay connected throughout the year.

We are happy to provide twine, hand saws for your use and have the ability to help bail (net) your cut tree free of charge. When you come to the farm it is great idea to dress for Oregon's dynamic Winter weather and consider what you can do to prepare for ease of transporting your freshly cut tree home. We are able to accept cash, checks and credit cards (with a small fee).

Questions? Please contact us.

Hope to see you on the farm this season!

In 2013 we celebrated our fifth holiday tree season on the farm hosting an inagural Earth & Sky Farm Holiday Bazaar! We loved this opportunity to showcase the works of local artisans in the forms of handcrafted wares, cider, beer, food and good old fashioned trees of the conifer variety-- homegrown Christmas Trees that you choose & cut (and come back to replant if you wish).
